Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas told the Spanish press that the “time wasn’t right” for a move to Real Madrid yet but admitted he couldn’t last a fourth consecutive season without a trophy under his belt.
Reports in Spain suggest Madrid president Ramon Calderon, resigned to missing out on Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, has prepared a big-money offer for the 21-year-old.
“I didn’t tell Ramon Calderon no,” he told Spanish sports daily Marca.
“I told him that now wasn’t the time to go to Madrid.
“That you are wanted by Madrid, one of the biggest teams in history, is important.”
And the young star, who feels he would be certain to lift a trophy should he opt for the Spanish champions, admits another season without any silverware could see him head for the exit door.
“To be four seasons without winning any titles would be too much for me,” Fabregas added.
“Real Madrid are the favourites to win La Liga this year.”
Fabregas could follow former Gunner Alexander Hleb to Spain, the 27-year-old Belarussian signed for Barcelona earlier this month in a big-money deal.
Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is one of the best five strikers in the world, according to a former team-mates.
Alexander Hleb, who left the Gunners for Barcelona this summer, believes his former team-mate would be a great addition to the squad in Spain.
Adebayor has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, and Hleb told Spain’s Sport newspaper:
“He’s a very good player. He’s big, has a lot of technique and is surprisingly fast for his size
“He controls the ball very well. It would be fantastic if he could join us but I don’t know anything about it.
“Without doubt he is one of the five best strikers in the world.”
Adebayor joined Arsenal in January 2006 from French side AS Monaco for an undisclosed fee reported to be £3million.

A couple of days later Freddie comes out saying he never even gave the newspaper an interview!! Also alot of times they change the wording and nick bits from other parts of an interview i.e. Wenger about Nasri transfer where people added what Wenger said about price differences in France and Britain being less to the reason for the transfer not taking place yet.

I don’t doubt the quotes are real — none of them honestly sound unbelievable. What I don’t believe are the implications created by the ordering and context of the quotes.
Example: Fabregas may have commented on Real Madrid, and as a top player, it’s not unusual to comment on happenings across football. But the quote “To be four seasons without winning any titles would be too much for me. Real Madrid are the favourites to win La Liga this year,” sounds to be two separate quips shoved together to give the implication that Cesc will leave without a trophy. Four seasons without winning titles could very well be too much, and Real Madrid may be favourites, but this doesn’t mean Cesc is saying he will be off to Madrid if Arsenal fail to win trophies this year. The sentences may have been several minutes apart — and when you combine things like that, you can make anything seem possible.
This is essentially yet another case of shoddy journalism — or purposely misleading journalism, maybe sponsored by a certain Spanish club with big ties to a certain paper reporting these claims. Overreaction, alienating Cesc, etc., will only lead to further problems. Jesus, people, think a little before you call for his head.

well fact is that any foreign player that originates from a league just as big as the premier league, would want to go back to his home land. fabregas came to arsenal to make a name for himself, as merida. and when they are spotted doing well by real or barca they’ll make a move back to the LALA LIGA. but i think cesc had second thoughts and so decided that maybe he could be something at arsenal. but then as you have seen players will always want to go back to their homelands no matter what.

c’mon people… Put yourself in Fabregas’ shoes. You have great talent, you love the club (Arsenal) and they have made you who you are today. However, he must look at his own career as well. All WINNERS likes to win whether its just one game or a whole cabinet of trophies.
If Arsenal do not win a silverware for another season, it’ll not only unsettle Fabregas but Wenger will have enormous pressure on his job. This is serious, whether or not Fabregas said those words. Can you blame a player for having a higher ambition? If you’re Cesc, would you stay for another 5 years and (touchwood) and win nothing again and again with the team getting younger each year?
Look at it as an employment, if your company only shows potential and not gain success, you’ll be frust too and think of alternatives to futher advance your career. Right, no?
Right now, Arsene and Arsenal needs to show ambition and I mean stop looking into the future and future and then future again. The club needs ‘stop-gap’ success as well. For the very reason of keeping our star players and also attracting other star players to come.

weve had this all summer, questions about barrys, ronaldos (not entirely unjustified) and fabregas loyalties to their clubs. we even had it with gerrard. fact is that players want to win things, want to write their names into the history books. if arsenal dont win anything next year (not that they wont, they have as good a chance as any) thats four years as the article says. its a long time to wait when as a player, you KNOW you can win things. gerrard for example, was on the brink of going the year before the champions league win. only when he was told we were going to strengthen did he stay.

The club has seen other pros who really behave like professionals when it comes to things like this such as Dennis Bergkamp who played on even with 1 year contracts and Gilberto who gave it all even if he had to sit on the bench and lose his captaincy.
