Lehmann Set To Pack His Bags For German Giants

June 2, 2008

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has been offered a contract from Bundesliga club Vfb Stuttgart to take the then free agent back to his homeland after the European Championships this June.

If the 38-year-old accepts, he’ll be expecting a major drop in wages as the Reds cannot compete with the ‘Premier League wages’ which The Gunners made available to him.

Stuttgart chairman Erwin Staudt told reporters:

“This will hopefully be made concrete in the next few days,” said Staudt.

“It is not a straightforward conversation, there are options to be discussed.”

Lehmann endured a controversial career at Arsenal with plenty of highs and lows along the way, from his penalty save against Juan Riquelme in the CL Semi 05, to the clangers at Fulham and Blackburn which in turn made Spaniard Manuel Almunia no 1. Goalkeeper at the club.

One thing is for sure, he’ll be remembered as one of the best keepers’ the club has ever had..

Good luck Jens and god bless. 😉

Jens, although mad what a legend, sorry for him getting sent off in CL final, he was distraught. Good luck in Germany

  2. Gooner Chris Says:

Yeah, he’s an Arsenal legend, I’m looking forward to watching him at Euro 2008.

At the very moment I would just like to have something else to talk about than what’s Jens is doing next season, damn! Anyway, long live the memory of mad man.

So Samir Nasri won’t be signing before he has participated in Euro 2008. The delay is not, as you may have read in some quarters, anything to do with wage disputes. It is simply that Nasri does not have the time or inclination to leave the France camp when he knows the deal is essentially done.
I’m sure he will sign in late July. Until then, we won’t miss him. Like any other player involved in the Euros, he won’t even return to training until shortly before the season starts.
Nasri is essentially off the market whilst he is France, so I wouldn’t worry about another club gazumping us. It’s clear that a few seasons without any trophies have turned our fans into panic-prone mentalists. There are plenty of blogs out there thriving on situations like the Nasri one, turning non-stories into Miltonic epics. In previous years, I could arguably have been accused of indulging in activities myself, scouring foreign newspapers to give you a minute-by-minute report of ongoing transfer deals.
Well, you’ll have to forgive me, but I’m bored of it now. Of course Arsene will bring people in – some of whom we’ll expect, some of whom will surprise us. But it will happen. Worrying about it won’t make it happen any quicker. We’re not Real Madrid – we don’t conduct our transfer business in public. At the moment, most fans are behaving like the kids on Christmas day who are shaking their presents to try and work out what’s inside. Sit back, and let yourself be surprised. I guarantee it will make for a more enjoyable Summer.

  6. If the deal’s all done, why can’t we just fax it over? Or DHL it. All we really need is three seconds with his pen hand.

  7. James Says:

I’m happy for ‘Mad’ Jens. I hope he has a good tournament at the Euros and he gets a good deal to see out his career at Stuttgart,

He had his bad moments, he had a shaky start at the club. But we’ll always remember his as a top, top class keeper.

BOY-BETTER-KNOW sums up the way we should be looking at the whole Nasri/Transfers saga now perfectly. It’s only just June and there is plenty of time for us to strengthen.
