Arsenal striker Robin van Persie started in a charity match last night and was rumoured to of come off injured early on after setting up a goal.
The match was played at the Allianz Arena to benefit ‘Goal4Africa’: A football match between two all-star teams put together by AC Milan duo Clarence Seedorf and Ronaldo.
Emmanuel Adebayor was the second Arsenal player to of been selected in the squad. He surprisingly didn’t fly to Munich though, with the frontman’s future at the club yet to be sorted just quite yet.
Chelsea’s midfield rock Michael Ballack starred in what proved an entertaining game for the 30,000+ crowd watching on in the Allianz.
Ballack was one of many Europe’s elite to play in the match. AC Milan’s Gattuso, Blackburn Rovers’ Christophe Samba and Bayern Munich’s Ze Roberto also figured in the charity game.
Although some of the world’s finest footballers were on show during the event, there were two other famous faces that appeared. Ex-Formula one driver Michael Schumacher started and scored in front of former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann, while Italian singer and songwriter Eros Ramazzotti played a part by playing the second half.
Global ambassador and Milan midfielder Seedorf revealed how the idea came about.
“The concept originated as a simple idea – and a powerful ideal. It was inspired by two major upcoming events: Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, on 18 July 2008, and the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, in 2010. In a nutshell, Goal4Africa is all about building a legacy for the future of Africa by bringing together two great forces: Education and Football.”
The ‘Goal 4 Africa’ global foundation works on the motto: donate an amount every time a goal is scored, be it in an amateur competition in your neighborhood or at the international level. Over 90 million euros is expected to be raised for school children in Africa.

July 13, 2008 at 9:47 am
I can assure you guys that it seems only a slight knock which will maybe keep him out the Barnet game next Saturday.
July 13, 2008 at 9:53 am
and then the week after, and the week after…Haha, that’s how it usually goes! Nah, im staying optimistic
Gooner Chris, i need your advice…Im going to my first ever game at the emirates at the Juve game, and im going to get the new arsenal shirt…Its between Nasri and Walcott. Who do you think?
July 13, 2008 at 9:53 am
he is always getting knocks
anyway we can see the barnet match
July 13, 2008 at 9:53 am
Mr an said, “shit”
I couldn’t put it better myself = )
July 13, 2008 at 9:56 am
What else do u expect from Mr.RVP
July 13, 2008 at 9:59 am
Jamal, I’d personally pick Walcott. He’s a raw English talent with Henry’s old number, he could have a magnificent season.
July 13, 2008 at 10:08 am
RvP won’t play against Barnet because he doesn’t start pre season traning until July 21st.
July 13, 2008 at 10:16 am
‘ere we go again with R.V.P. methinks it’ll be the same ol’ story week after week this season and that’s the reason why when ade goes we should buy 2 strikers not one. When a player is injury prone 9 times out of 10 it’ll always be like that. It’s the same in cricket with Flintoff who’s fit at the moment but I wonder for how long?.
July 13, 2008 at 10:16 am
Hope so that we THEO can have a wonderful season.Wish to see another THIERRY but this time from England
July 13, 2008 at 10:19 am
Typical.
If he can stay fit he’ll be fighting it out with Torres golden boot (assuming Ronaldo leaves). That is a big if, however.
July 13, 2008 at 10:26 am
shite!! but it’s not a big surprise though
July 13, 2008 at 10:27 am
damn not agen lol on his day hes better then torres tho

July 13, 2008 at 10:49 am
Eto’o plus 10m! No thanks. 30m would be much better
July 13, 2008 at 11:14 am
WHo said Eto is worth 20 now ??
lol
July 13, 2008 at 11:14 am
RVP is a waste of time – he must have the lowest pain threshold of any player in existance – except when it comes to playing for Holland of course??
I am not knocking his obvious quality but you cant plan your attack with him in the side because he is always injured!!!
July 13, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I’m not suprised if this could be Van Persie last season at Arsenal.Wenger as a lot of faith in him because of his natural ability but if you look at how many games he played last season,he is soon starting to be a waste of space and big teams would spend a lot of money on a player like Van Persie.Still if he can stay fit he would be one of the stars in the premier league next season.
July 13, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Yeah always seems to be the case,,,,, Rosicky probably got injured watching the game at Darren Anderton’s House, with Ledley King Supplying the Beer’s.
Fantasy Premier League is Here once again. Let’s see who’s the best out of all the Blogger’s and commenter’s out of all of us,

Makes Arjen Robben look robust!
July 13, 2008 at 2:39 pm
What? It wasn’t a injury.
He showed up, but the agreement was he came of imidiatly because Arsenal didn’t want him too play that’s all.
July 13, 2008 at 2:42 pm
There was no agreement at all.
He set up a goal for Nelson Mandela’s son before coming off. Apparently he was already slightly fatigued before that match.
July 13, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Thats right gooner chris. The commentator said he was carrying a knock before the game started though. But weird i mean ud expect him to be fit enough to play in a friendly charity match where no hard tackles fly in etc

July 13, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Ok thanks Suli.

If I rememeber correctly, RVP seemed to be wearing down — or worse, feeling the effects of that never-ending thigh problem — by his final appearance at Euro 2008. He was a shadow in that game, no presence at all, as got thrashed and went out.
Also, I’d have to look at the highlights again — one of you guys will have it — but I think RVP and his lack of movement led to Arshavin skinnining him and somebody else in Orange for a goal.
Some players — it’s the same in any sport — simply have the wrong running style, or the inability to roll or “give” with a hit, and consequently they seem to be injured all the time. I don’t have a scientific report to back this up, but I’ve been a sports journalist for 30 years and I know what I see — it appears tall and thin athletes are more likely to pick up these knocks. The shorter, blocky-build guys seem to hold up better.
Back to RVP: Hey, Suli, since you watched that match, did the commentator mention any specific knock RVP was supposed to have prior to the game? I’d be interested to know if it’s the deep thigh pull that never heals.
Now THAT would be bad news after he seemed to be putting the pieces together in the Euros.
Cheers, everybody!
July 13, 2008 at 3:28 pm
he will proabably be alright anyway no need to worry
July 13, 2008 at 4:08 pm
What a shame, RVP!
July 13, 2008 at 4:23 pm
This just sums up RVP.. He’s always fit or not even fit to play for country and charity. But when it comes to the REAL crunching games, he’s injured.
He goes off to play for his country, gets a knock.. then spend half the season nursing his injury. Once he’s fit again, plays for Arsenal for 10 games, gets a knock.. nurse his injury again. Then comes the international games again, which he at times plays even when he is half fit and gets injured again.
I think the main word here is INJURED. If he’s always getting injured, i think he should hang up his boots for Internationals for the moment.
Use the time to rest and be fit for Arsenal. When he’s stronger or his thigh has fully recovered (which means he can play 30 games for Arsenal continuously) then he can go on and represent Holland again.
Simple, cos Arsenal pays his salary, not Holland.
July 13, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Nope mate the commentator never mention any specific knock.
July 13, 2008 at 5:48 pm
LOOOOL!!! Why am i not supprised?? this is how he’ll whole career will be..
July 13, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Wonder why you guys bother? Don’t count on him and Rosicknote and you’ll be fine………..consider it luxury anytime they are available. I am personally done with these 2!
They are great but what use is that to us if they are always unavailable???????
July 13, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Let’s get Schumie! He’d play for free. Good, solid, very fit. He’s gotta be on a par with Lampard. He might not fit the team but he’d fight fire with fire when it came to anti-footballers like Bolton and Blackburn.
July 13, 2008 at 11:29 pm
He is chronically injured just like mr. sicknote himself.

July 14, 2008 at 9:34 am
WHY THE HELL DID WENGER LET HIM PLAY A CHARATY MATCH!!!!!! THE COACH IS ALLOWED TO FORBID THIER PLAYERS FROM PLAYING GAMES LIKE THAT, AND RVP SHOULDNT BE SO STUPID. PLAYING A CHARATY MATCH IS ASKING FOR TROUBLE IF YOU ARE INJURY PRONE……
July 14, 2008 at 9:53 am
fuck me not again.
July 14, 2008 at 10:38 am
Bleedin hell………..all the more reason to get Huntelaar and Ashavin
July 14, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Injuries or not he is greatly over rated.
A fairly selfish player who is not as competent as he thinks.
I would replace him NOW.
Trouble is I want Adebayor to go, I do not rate Bendtner so that leaves Eduardo (IF he fully rcovers and Walcott – not really strong enough for a Premiership Striker and Carlos Vela who I do not know enough about to comment.
July 14, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Lemme Just sum it up. TYPICAL RvP. Charity Match are you fucking seriuos, they fucking have a cup of tea on the pitch and he still gets injured. READ THIS!!!
July 15, 2008 at 9:34 am
He’s like Michael Owen, always getting injured
July 17, 2008 at 6:21 pm
forget assavin, he’s just a prick who’s barca prone like hleb and he hides away in big matches anyway. we need players who are consistently playing well throughout the season.
i wouldn’t mind huntelaar, d.villa or aguero.
as for rvp, tell him to give it a rest, he should have known better if he was carrying a knock from before the match
