In Defence Of Ade – From The Frontman’s Perspective

July 2, 2008

The statements Adebayor made a few days ago by the Togo frontman caused lot’s of confusion and indignation amongst fans. While most of the points made are quite valid, has anyone tried looking at the situation from his perspective?

First of all let’s clear up some popular misconceptions.

  • Despite what you read no one from Ade’s camp has not made any unreasonable demands of Arsenal. More on that later.
  • All the noises about a possible to Milan or Barca has come from “superagent” Vincenzo Morabati, who represents AC Milan not Adebayor. Adebayor’s agent is Frenchman Stephane Courbis.
  • When Ade said “we will know next week” that is because this is the time arranged by both parties (Arsenal and Adebayor) to meet.

After having such a good season Ade is entirely within his rights to ask for a raise, just like anyone of us would of our employers after performing so strong for the year.

Knowing that Milan were so desperate to sign him, he would be extremely foolish not to use them as a negotiating tool. Coming out in a press conference and saying you are committed to Arsenal is tantamount to showing all your cards to the opposition.

Any good agent would be furious with their client for throwing away such a great bargaining chip, I would assume then that Stephane immediately let Ade know of his folly. If his agent didn’t do that then at the very least the player himself would have recognised his mistake.

When questioned later Ade said

“I am a footballer, I have a three-year contract at Arsenal but as you know, a lot of clubs are interested in me,”

“At the moment we are just going to sit down and talk and decide what to do.”

Normally there is nothing wrong with this statement, it is the usual ambiguous blurb the footballers are taught to repeat at times like this. The only problem is that it contradicts his previous statements.

As far as we know Ade is on no more than £30k a week, it could be much lower.

Can anyone say it is unreasonable for Adebayor to want a raise?

When asking for a pay rise you use everything you can to get the best deal from you employer (if you are not then you’re losing out) and in football the biggest bargaining chip is the prospect of other clubs coveting a player.

Be sure that figures you hear going around is no where close to what Ade’s team will ask for £120k is just a made up number. I think that £60-70k weekly is reasonable for Adebayor to ask for, with this in mind he should start negotiations at £90k.

Remember this is what negotiating is about. And for those who says but he signed a contract last season.

Think of it this way, you’ve signed a contract one year ago, but you’ve made record sales and seen as one of the company’s top performers. Another company notices your ability and wants to give you much better terms, wouldn’t you at least look at what is being offered and go to your employer to negotiate a better deal?

That’s all the man wants, a better deal.

Is that not reasonable?

    first ever first!

  2. TopGunPires Says:

Ade put himself in the ‘Thierry’ bracket which was totally foolish. He should stop believing his own hype, sign his 60k contract get on with scoring goals. Neither Barca or AC Milan can afford him and Arsenal know that.

Compare his attitude to a Clichy or a Cesc who also both has superb seasons and have been coveted by teams around Europe and you relalise how stupid he has been.

  3. darren Says:

p.s. agree but there is an ethical and proper way of going about it… u wudnt hear cesc doing the talking that ade is!!!

  4. Eddie Mcginty Says:

    No

  5. daniel Says:

fuk u hez a cunt nd ur gna stand up 4 him the man wntz more than 80,000 a week he aint worth 60,000 ok your obv one of those people hu sez their interested and supports arsenal but doesnt actuli watch arsenal or adebayor

  6. Gooner Chris Says:

Courbis is the greedy one IMO, holding out for a big-money deal.

  7. Michael Says:

How about the comments about the same money as Henry?
    or
    If I don’t get what I want I’ll leave?
    In the notw

Not many people (me included) care about him anymore. He can go if he wants

  8. Gooner Chris Says:

    There you said it.. NOTW.

The article was from a contributor for the blog..

comments like “fuck u and ur shitty blog” etc aren’t needed and show how limited your intelligence really is.

  9. Spike Says:

    But

Yoiu havent even addressed the interview from Sunday fella.
    ]
I aint got no problem with the comments from Friday.

its the comments from sunday that are the killer.

Oh and his agent saying TODAY that Arsenal need to show how committed they are to keep Ade.

Wrong! he signed a fresh deal last season, he has had a good season, it would be stupid if the club raised his wages based on 1 season, it could be a fluke.

Wenger had it right at the end of last season, when he said Ade aint the finished article YET and needed to show it next season.

Well, Ade and his agent havent even waited till the start have they?

Nope, he is out there, believing his own hype and its time to CASH IN on the Lumpanator

  10. GoonerGentry Says:

Sell him now, the guy is a disease and a cancer. Awful person and ugly human being. I want him out. Most hated Arsenal player to ever exist

  11. goangunner Says:

you present a different point of view to what everyone else has been saying..but two comments he made..one about henry and the other about how both sides would win(i came for 10 million and leaving for 50). These comments make him look bad.

  12. Eddie Mcginty Says:

Precisely, he doesn’t deserve to lick the shit off Henry’s dying pet salmon, never mind get paid as much. He needs to start smiling and celebrating when he scores again and lose his ego otherwise i will personally rape then kneecap him.

  13. Gooner Chris Says:

I agree with the comments about Henry, I don’t actually believe Ade said that though.

  14. patthegooner Says:

Up until last Friday I was a pro Ade fan, but sorry his comments and actions over the last week have been a disgrace and he has completely disrespected us fans

I have never booed any Arsenal Player at the Emirates but that twat is coming very close

I for one hopes he never pulls on an Arsenal Shirt again

  15. esak Says:

Now it is plan B! please let’m go and buy someone much better, David Villa! No more Ade at all!!!!

  16. Paul Says:

Ade signed a brand new contract last summer, if he wasn’t happy with the amount of money he was earning he shouldn’t have signed it. After one good season his agent has filled his head with a bunch of crap and has now been backed into a corner. Wenger holds all the cards, and that’s the way I like it.

  17. Ash Says:

Its not reasonable to lose the fans in order to get a pay raise. Now Wenger is tight when its comes to spending money but he looks after his players well (our wage bill is almost the same as Man Utd). Ive met Adebayor before randomly and he seemed full of himself and some of his recent statements show it. He was a trouble maker at Monaco and we’ve seen his bad side with the incident against a youngster making his way into the team. After one season in which he has done well he’s comparing himself to Henry and wanting to be on similar kind of wages. Well am sorry you have to earn that.

With Vela and Walcott still unproven as strikers, Van Persie and Eduardo struggling for fitness Wenger will not sell him unless we get £30m but I think all four have more ability than Adebayor

  18. jeff Says:

You disappoint me. Why you trying to sugar coat the sour taste the lanky one has left in our mouths? He’s a number one twat.

  19. alfienoakes Says:

    nicely put Daniel…….?

To a certain extent, I agree with dfunkydog.. In my job, I would have no qualms going to my current employer and saying, “look, I love it here, but these guys are making things very difficult to ignore”.. If my company wanted me, they would make an offer.

I think its the manner in which it seems to have been carried out, and of course the agents contradicting words.. “its not about the money..” Look, dont piss on my back and tell me its raining.. Its ALL about the money.. This could have all been carried out much more discreetly and no one need have really known until Arsenal announced that Ade had signed a new contract worth X amount per week..

  20. The maths are very simple.
    Option 1.Accept 25/30 million for him .
Option 2 Increase his wages to say conservatively 65/70,000 per week.
It does not take a rocket scientist to work out which is the obvious option to take for a player who a huge number of fans dont particularly rate anyway.

  21. Bob Says:

Ade is worth 60k per week and we’ve been lucky to get him so cheap, 30 goals in his first real season he score as many as Torres (whats he on?). I agree that his agent possibly slapped him for saying he was committed to Arsenal but if you listen to what he said in the interview after he gave an hour after he could have been saying that it is also a choice Arsenal have to make as to whether they want the money. I think he is difficult to understand and the press love it as they can fill in the gaps. Who’d replace him Eto bringing his tantrums to the emirate, I hope not and apparently Villa’s not interested in leaving Valencia.

  22. eddie Says:

As far as we know…NOBODY HAS A F*CKING CLUE HOW MUCH HE’S ON!! Why do we believe the papers when they quote his alleged wages?? He signed a fresh contract last year, right? So are you telling me that last year’s increase took him to 30k/week? That we originally signed him on around 20k/week? If so, does ONE GOOD SEASON automatically turn you into an 80k/week player? No, I didn’t think so either. The fact is that when Adebayor went missing last season, after his early hot streak, Wenger stood by him and kept him as his main man when he had a ready-made alternative in Bendtner who wasn’t given the chance to start games in his stead. At Barca or Milan, 3 sh*t games in a row and you’re out on your arse. If I were Nik bendtner, I’d be furious – where’s the meritocracy in that? You work like a beast all year to get a shot, but when the main striker is firing blanks for 9 games, you STILL don’t get a f*cking game. To me that’s ridiculous, but it shows you the faith Wenger had in Adebayor, which is then repaid by a demand for substantial wages – and we know they’re substantial or else he’d have signed on improved terms already and we would not be receiving bids from Barca.

My take on this is that we’re playing Barca/Laporta. Running down time to his motion of censure from the fans – if it goes to plan, he’ll panic and throw the kitchen sink at Arsenal for Adebayor. In the meantime, Arsene has probably got a couple of conditional bids accepted for strikers of similar stature and is waiting for an appropriate bid from Barca. Once they offer around 30m, I reckon Wenger will grab it and run, and sign someone like Santa Cruz, Huntelaar or Kuranyi for about 10m a couple of days later, making a massive profit in the process on a guy who’s proved very little indeed.
This is all my opinion. Of course, I could be completely wrong and Wenger could just refuse to sell or to give him the contract he wants just to make a point.

  23. I pity the fool Says:

It is unreasonable to ask for a £90.000 raise. Theirry was not on £120.000 a week after 3 seasons and had scored 80 goals compared to Adebayor’s 46. What if we pay him what he wants and he scores another 30 goals, is he gonna ask for another £90.000 raise. If he had asked for a raise that would keep him with in the pay structure then he would get it and all this nonsence would be over and done with. Plus Ade hasn’t exactly helped to quash the speculation with Barca and Milan. If you want to stay just come out and say it and be done with it, dont keep flop-flopping from one minute to the next. His attitude sucks and so does his finishing. Be gone with you!!!

  24. skunkster Says:

    i’m with Jeff

  25. LondonGooner Says:

    Poorly misguided article.

No true fan is going to look at it from Ade’s point of view as his weekly earnings are equivolent to our yearly earnings, so there will be NO sympathy, NO undertsnading, NO empathising, just the cold hard facts he was offered and signed a new contract 10 months ago when he had played pretty shit for us up till then and now he has played well he wants another rise within the same 12 month period. Even in big business that doesn’t happen. So he and his scumbag leach of an agent should take a long walk off of a short pier.

  26. skunkster Says:

sorry that wasn’t a gay confession – i just meant i back what Jeff point 18 was saying!

  27. Eddie Mcginty Says:

Exactly, Adebayor doesn’t deserve to give mouth to mouth to Henry’s dying rat while it’s being sick. Ade doesn’t seem the brightest crayon in the colouring box and I think he has been led astray.

  28. Gunner4life&beyond Says:

The point is this; no matter what anyone says, he deserves a pay rise. However unlike most people he didn’t wait to receive one, or even have a word with his boss, in the boss’ office. He came out publicly and said all this crap. Sagna, Clichy, and Fabregas have all gotten pay rises after last season, and without all this crap.

Ade would have got one too, and very deservedly so, but all this shit has backfired on him, bad advice from his agent and whoever else if you ask me. Very poor overall, should have taken the example of the other three players. His actions are totally unjustified. I think he wants a move.

  29. Mark Says:

I’m sorry but he did this last year coming out with ‘Man Utd wanted me’ thing last summer, got his pay rise and its happening all over again, he sums up everything thats wrong in football and its one of the reasons the new stadium is so expensive. Take off your rose tinted specs mate. This comes from an Arsenal fan as well

  30. chris Says:

gr8 article im sicj o fppl jumping to conclusions anyother gr8 piece!

  31. DeiseGooner Says:

Ade got a payrise with his new contract only last season. This was despite his average performances with glimpses of his potential. Now he had a good season last year proving that he was worth that new contract. He felt he deserved more, thats fair enough. But yo go to the manager and club personally and through your agent. what you dont do is get your agent, or allow some other fuckin cunt of an agent, to go to the press and use other clubs interes in you to try and pressure the club into giving you a massive payrise. Thats bullshit IMO. He should show some dignity and do the deal in private, like the club do with all transfer and contract dealings. Then announce to the press.

  32. Mark C Says:

We dont know what Adebayor has said to Arsenal.

Wenger has confirmed they have spoken and that he wants Ade to sign a new contract/ longer.

Ade has said he is happy on his current one, as he knows next year he wont be worth 30 mill, but he could get higher wages from a different club.

Adebayor is not as good as he thinks he is. Yes he scored lots of goals around Xmas, but he did not do it in the big games, Man U away is the key to me.

I think he is on 45k, that deal was agreed last season.

He could be due a slight increase, but Wenger does not want the squad to go above the 50 – 55k a week limit.

  33. JOSH.C Says:

its understandable for him to want a raise as i feel he deserves to be on a par with clichy atleast

  34. brendon Says:

been reading this blog often, a great blog i must say.

but i have to disagree with you there.
there’s no problem with any player wanting a raise. but he’s only have had one good season- 30 goals with less than 2 assist.
I have a problem with the way he managed the situation ; in a disgraceful manner and shows the ungrateful twat he really is.
comparison to the great henry, holding arsenal to ransom if they wont meet his ‘demands’. calling arsenal a ‘lovely club then saying milan and barca are a ‘biggest club’ in the world. cant argue with him there but still lack of respect for arsenal!

  35. Alex Says:

I would expect that the club could do likewise and say

Can you trap a ball closer than 8ft away from you ?
Can you please, for the love of God, TRY to stay onside ?
Can you not let your ego rule, and pass to teammates in better positions ?
Can you NOT try and involve the useless Eboue in every move ?
Can you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE not miss sitters ?
Can you score more goals against top opposition ?
Can you not crow on about 30gls when 6 were vs Derby, the worst team ever ?

In fact, please fuck off for 30-35M and never darken our door again.

p.s. take Eboue with you, as a free gift. oh – and Hleb – the ***t.

  36. Greek Gooner Says:

Ade is a greedy cunt who can’t hit shoot control or pass.
YOU are a Stupid cunt who is buying his bf and from today you have one less reader
    Asshole…

  37. Dave Says:

Adeybayor has stained the Arsenal shirt with his comments and is not fit to wear it again. AW should hold out for as much as he can get for the greedy s o b but ultimately I think he should go, as in my opinion he represents everything that is wrong with our great game of football today.
That’s my first ever rant on this blog and I’m pleased to get it off my chest, I’m off for my Horlicks now :-) .

  38. JOSH.C Says:

    i actually agree with brendon.

the way he contradicted himself was stupid.

i’d be happy to have him stay at arsenal, and wouldn’t hold a grudge, as long as he slots in another 30 :) But still we are waiting for him to commit himself

  39. sam Says:

yeah he’s greedy, but he is a good player on his day and can make the difference…

but 35 million! Phwooar! Bye Adebadhair

  40. alf15 Says:

Great post agree 100%. Anyone of us would do the same. Hope he says.

He gives us so many options! Being able to head a ball is one of the major things. When our attack of trying to pass the ball into the net, was to prodictable and defences would just sit back and get tight and we couldnt break them down. Now with the option of crossing the ball and Ade to meet it, the defences have to come out and close our full backs or wide man down to prevent the cross, which in turns opens up their defence for a sly through ball to RVP etc….Game set match Arsenal!

  41. Ralph Says:

    Poor Thierry Henry.

He must be devastated his salmon is dying.

  42. phil Says:

Glad to see some inteligent debate gooner chris but surely you are only playing devils advocate. I like Ade as a player but his temprement is unquestionably questionable and the reported transfer fees are way over his true value; we should bite off the hand of anyone who offers 25 mil. I also disagree that he is being reasonable asking for 90k. Good article though.

  43. piken79 Says:

ADE should get a pay raise cus for his goal tally he is making peanuts..he should get at least 50K-60K a week..im sure most of the over-rated players in the league make way more than he does. Maybe his agents approach is stupid but yes..we need to give him more money and he needs to stop giving interviews..cus clearly his english is not so good and he is digging a hole for himself with the fans

  44. Ash Says:

Ask for a raise when you’ve won a trophy

Where was his performances when we were dropping all those points towards the end of the season

How many clear cut chances did he miss against AC Milan home and away and against Liverpool?

  45. Ole Gunner Says:

Ade’s problem is that he’s not 24 years old. Here’s a link to a story from a relative implying he was already born in 1977. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/jun/29/501.html He’s really thinking of retirement.

He’s Nigerian (by origin). Most Nigerian players are older than their official ages.

  46. California Steve Says:

I’m guessing very few of the posters on this site are barefoot kids from Togo who have suddenly become national heroes and have very little experience in knowing how to deal with it.

All you average Joes who compare your own situations to Ade’s and say you’d go in and tell the boss another company was after you — and that you’d handle it discreetly instead of making a foolish statement…

    Bollocks!

Try doing it in a profession where you can’t tie your shoes without the critique of a few million bloggers, several HUNDRED million fans passing judgment by the hour and the global media pointing cameras down your shorts.

I’m a journalist myself, I understand the dynamics of what’s going on here — though not the behind-the scenes negotiations — frankly I think the agent Courbis is a good guy in this morality play.

So is Ade, actually. He’s trying to do and say the right things but honestly he is what he is — no shame in it, but they don’t have many classes in “Public Relations for Millionaire Footballers” in the Togo school system.

Everyone in this drama understands that Wenger holds all the cards. And typical of our loveable boss, once again he’d rather not show anything to a soul. Frankly, I love that trait and he’s kept us at or near the top with his scheming.

So I don’t know if Arsene would actually take big bid from a panicked Laporta. Maybe, if he REALLY has faith in Bendtner — because AW learned last year how handy it was to have a big, strong striker to negate teams that wanted to pack the middle against out passing game.

My guess — and that’s what it is — would be that Arsene believes that this year’s Arsenal team, a year older and stronger with a couple of additions like Nasri, Vela (why does everyone forget him?) and maybe a first-class player somewhere at the back like Senna, really can win the league.

    Why not?

We got every bad break imagineable last year and missed it by four points.

Back to Ade: Please don’t be so quick to demonize the guy. He’s not a rocket scientist, he’s difficult to understand (but no worse than Gerrard) and he sometimes gets his messages confused.

But remember that for the missed sitters and odd comments, Manu runs his guts out every single time he steps on the pitch. A man with his size, strength and surprising mobility, that non-stop action is truly difficult for our opponents. Rio Ferdinand called Ade the toughest forward he’s ever faced.

Honestly, I think this will be worked out, Ade will get a decent raise (deserved, if we’re honest…) and both the club and Courbis will make sure he says the right things.

I’d rather have a guy who plays as hard as Ade every time out than a constant conversationalist who gives you half an effort when it suits him.

Calm down, everybody. I think AW will sort this one out, and probably teach Ade some quiet “life lessons” in the process.

  47. EK_GOONER Says:

Everthing with arsenal seems complicated nowadays doesn’t it?
I’m so bored of this Ade/Hleb/ Nasri “will they won’t they” saga.

Ade is a victim of listening to his own hype..he is good but not world class. I’ll be shocked if he hits anywhere near 30 goals next season so if Barca/ milan want to be mugged for £20+ million…then Wenger should be biting their hands off.

  48. Dan Says:

What is wrong with all of you!? Clearly you haven’t been going to the Emirates as often as I have to notice that Adebayor is an excellent prospect and could be a World beater in future seasons.

Don’t get my wrong, some of his words over the past week have been rather insensitive but lets face it, he’s still fairly young and he’s a footballer; they’re generally not very bright!

Adebayor gives us something different up front. Sure he missed a few chances last season, but he also scored 30 goals. Personally I don’t think Van Persie or Eduardo are capable of such a total just yet. If Ade continues to work on his finishing he will be an imense assest over the next three years. Didnt Ferdinand say he was the most difficult striker to play against in the prem??

The fact that Milan and Barca are interested just shows that he’s a fantastic player. We should all get off his back and leave hm to get on with things. That is unless he comes out in the press and actually asks to leave the club….

In the mean time lets all have a go at Hleb – now he’s an overrated, greedy SOAB

  49. lc Says:

Ade is right to get pay rise; you don’t score 30 goals and get pay 30k/w. If AW can’t offer him a better deal, he is wrong not allowing him to leave. At the moment, too many Arsenal fans don’t fancy his finishing. AW must take this into acount. A player connot perform well in an environment where he is boulied by his own fans.
AW is wrong to reject £25M from Barca, for a player you bought only about £7M three years ago. You should take the money and improve the team. It’s leasy and unambitious with that type of managment, Arsene.

  50. Danny Says:

    Well done Gooner Chris

Criticised you a little for the Nasri artcile yesterday, but today well, I’m all for this article.

This is a responsible piece of work and the article I have been waiting for someone to write. Well done, because it is well written and fair. The inflamatory comments posted by so many recently judge Ade completely different to how people judge themselves.

When was the last time a striker scored 30 plus goals in the Premiership and did not try to re-negotiate the terms of his contract, and more importantly more the fool he.

This is how footballers negotitate, well all high-flyers to be fair. If someone else wants and is prepared more for your services, then that is a tool to be used at the bargaining table.

Give the fella a break, this is the real world of football and it’s not half as romantic as some of the more precious Gooners have been acting lately. We are not in the 30’s 50’s or even 80’s, footballers negotiate hard. Seem to remember Steven Gerrarrd’s shirt being burnt on the gates of Anfield last time he was in contract talks.

    Great article.

  51. Farrukh Says:

    LOL At post 46!

I always thought he was in his 30’s… he looks far too old to be 24!

I’d be happy with him gone to be honest. I still remember him standing in an offside position and then screwing at Rosicky for not passing to him. What a pr*ck.

  52. Danny Says:

    Dan, Californa Steve.

    Great Posts!

  53. chengiskhan Says:

Great post, Cali Steve! Finally some sanity here! I’m afraid our fans are (1) too quick to believe everything they read, (2) too quick to interpret in the worst possible way, and (3) oblivious as to what is really happening behind the scenes.

I think AW will keep Ade and make him prove he can do it 2 years in a row. If Ade is REALLY that good and has confidence in his abilities, then he will show the world that he is not a fluke, and AW will have no choice but to give him his just deserts.

  54. Danny Says:

    LondonGooner,

“Even in big business that doesn’t happen”

Who are you kidding, course it bloody does.

    People negotiate hard.

Get real, if you’re a wanted man…you have all the aces. Full Stop.

  55. TruGunner10 Says:

The majority of you guys are absolutely ridiculous, complete lunatics. Think about what your saying, its 100% irrational. I’ve read RVP is better than Ade, the same RVP who hasn’t made it through a full season? Sure he’s class, BUT he spends too much time on the treatment table. I’ve read Bendtner is better than Ade, the same Bendtner who had 40 app. and only 9 goals. I’ve read about Ade’s dry spell during the season, but I ask who else during that period scored or for that matter looked good? I’ve read he didn’t score against top competition, Liverpool, ManU, AC Milan and Spuds says otherwise.

What happened to actions speak louder than words? Or believe none of what you hear. I guess those don’t apply to the footballing world. Ade’s actions last season showed he bleeds red and white. Ade went out every game and played with his heart for the Arsenal supporters and look at the way you guys are acting towards him. The comments we have read are from a agent who isn’t his agent. The other comments about Henry are coming from where? Did any of you guys see that interview cause I must have missed it. You guys are the CUNTS, you guys are GREEDY BASTARDS, you guys are STUPID. Get a clue and have some F***ing CLASS.

  56. Gunner #1 Says:

Cesc hasn’t ever done that, he’s performed magically for the last 3 years for us now, and he still doesn’t do that, Ade’s had 1 good year. ONE!! So he should stick to doing what he does best, score goals, and tear Premiership defences apart for next season, and then try to get a better deal. If he does it again next season, give him his £70,000 contract, but until then he has to show he has the one quality most fooballers don’t have. He must show he is consistant over the course of more than just one season, then he will deserve his payrise. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see if he wants to prove, yet again, that he can lead the line for us. He has plenty of time, as Eduardo wont be back for a while, Bendtner needs another two years at least to turn himself into a man from a big kid. Theo wont be ready to play as a striker full time until well into next season. He needs to show he is worthy of a contract like that. And don’t get me started on being compared to The greatest striker we’ve ever had. He had a good year, but if Henry got as many chances as Ade, he would’ve banged in 60 goals. And no, I’m not exaggerating.

People with class don’t swear and use capital letters for an entire mid-sentance word. Did you know class is also a type of Central-African anal disease.

  58. Danny Says:

Gunner #1 that’s where your wrong. If Milan or Barca will give you a massive hike in wages, then you deserve it right now.

Because that’s what your worth. You’re romanticising the whole issue. Maybe 20 years ago, you could turn to Ade and say exactly what you posted but times have changed.

As for Fab, as he stands he is an exception to the rule.

In contract talks, Roy Keane said he would join Juve or Dortmund and Steven Gerrard said he would consider Chelsea.

Football is not the same as it used to be, right now players have more power and as is the norm when you have more power, you use it!

  59. Paul N Says:

California Steve, I dont think you are right as it seems that every club has had this problem with Ade (Monaco and even his National Team), it has nothing to do with PR to me. Are you saying that you can look for any player from Togo to behave like this. The reason he is doing this is just down to what is in his heart. There has been many othet African players from poor backgrounds and how many of them have behaved like this, or did thay just have better PR people. Have to disagree.

While I dont think we should condemn Ade but it is he who made the bad decisions, whether by influence or not. I really hope none of this is true but if it is I would still hope Ade has a change of heart and stays.

  60. Adebyeor Says:

Fact of the matter with Ade is if he wants to go; you have to let him go. And for everyone’s sake involved. The player, the club, the fans and our chances at winning the Premiership.

You can’t have your main striker performing half-heartedly out on the pitch. If there’s doubt still lingering it will affect performance.

Quite frankly i don’t believe this article or any article I’ve read on the situation justifies his approach. Arsenal are strapped for the cash at the moment and they can’t be affording to mess around with the wage structure. If he has a problem with that then he should look for pastures anew. Its as simple as that.

  61. Passenal Says:

I suspected initially that Ade was looking for a pay raise after exceeding all expectations last season, and I didn’t really have a problem with his agent using the Milan interest to get one. However, Ade and his agent seriously miscalculated with their approach over the last few days. They have alienated people who previously supported him and reinforced the views of those who thought he was over rated. I suspect he would rather stay at Arsenal, (with a pay raise) but he may have pushed things too far and made his position untenable.

It would be better for the club if he stayed because too many changes to the first team could disrupt us too much. There may or may not be better finishers out there, but they would need time to adjust to playing with the team. So although I’m disappointed with how he has behaved, if he stays with the team and continues to work hard, I would not dream of booing him as that would be totally counter-productive to the team playing well. At the end of the day, it’s the team we support not the individuals.

  62. AD Says:

OH YEAH. NUMBER 63. GET IN THERE!!!!!

Whoever started this “first” thing is a complete prat. It doesn’t make sense. Why would someone want to brag about appearing first on a comments listing if they don’t have contribution to make toward an article?

Why do people waste their time watching the clock, continually hitting the refresh button until the latest blog appears. Do people actually get any pleasure from doing this (my guess is probably they do!). Get out of the house more often, go meet some friends or hell get a girlfriend. For those of you getting all defensive, I am sorry to say, the computer cannot replace a female friend.

These people are probably anti-social individuals who have nothing better to do with their time. For those of you that then say “second” and “third” your even more stupid than the first person.

63!!! – Ooh Yay I’m so happy, I’m gonna go tell everyone. Mummy and Daddy are gonna be so proud!

  63. arse-anal lol Says:

your blog makes perfect sense, most arsenal fans and all football fans on the whole are very emotional and passionate about the team and the players, scorning them like bitter girlfriends when they dont hear or get exactly what they want, football is a business as well as a sport, like it or not and Ade is an employee of Arsenal PLC, as long as Ade is wearing an Arsenal shirt next season and is happy with his wage and the club happy to pay him a fair wage (for a footballer that is) then so bloody what, what matters is what happens on the pitch thats where the real talking is done, so dont slag off Hleb and Ade lads they are only human, i got a funny feeling they will both be at arsenal next season, lets see then do their talking on the pitch i hope!

  64. No 65 Says:

    No. 65!

eh why did i post again?

take it east 63-64 by taking the time to dunk someone for whatever reason is as lame as your actual point so knock it off
good article from whoever wrote it i think it was junkyard dog but i can’t remember and tbh to lazy to scroll back up. anyways, good job.
however, yes he is good and comes from less than exquisite environment and no that is not an excuse for turning your back on the people who feed you. Anyway you cut it its disrespectful and i really do not care what part of the world you come from and how lacking one is on the intrugal wheelin’ n dealin’ ways in the western world of commerce .it is by no means a get of jail free card and he has to own up to his shit otherwise he is a pr@ck who doesn’t deserve what he has let alone what he is asking for

  66. jermaine Says:

the dude signed a 60 grand a week deal last year, and wants at least 80 now.

  67. Gunner Jillu Says:

valid points but……..is there not a better way of doing this rather than through the media, Milan and Barca had made it known they wanted him, that is a bargaining tool enough then him coming out to add to the speculation

  68. Gunner Jillu Says:

Whats a Super Agent, one that flys from Milan to London to sign a player???

  69. biscuit Says:

Adebayor just done what he is paid to do, score goals. Yes he did have a very good season, but he basically just done his job. I dont agree that he deserves a pay rise yet cos it only been one season, but if he wanted a pay rise there are ways of going about it and im afraid he has gone about it in the wrong way. To demand ‘Henry wages’ is a blatant show of arrogance and is very disappointing seeing as how Wenger took a chance on him when Monaco didnt want him anymore. Personally I think that if we receive a good offer then sell, but if not he should stay and be made to honor the contract that willingly signed last year.

  70. Ricky Says:

I understand where he’s comminng from in a way & never belive all the media hype BUT he should show the club & manager more respect & atleast get another good season under he’s belt before he starts asking for a pay rise..

I mean he’s not exactly earning peanuts is he……. ;)

  71. I see where you’re coming on this and defending Adebayor. But does that mean every time a player has a good season and is being paid for what they are supposed to be doing anyway goes up to the boss to ask for more filthy lucre? When does it stop? No one actually knows how much Adebayor is on only the club accountants, Adebayor, his agent – fans, newspapers dont know – they’re guessing.

It doesn’t matter that another team comes in for you, you’re under contract, simple. To show loyalty works both ways. Adebayor got a raise last year when he scored something like 11 goals. The club shouldn’t break the wage structure just because a player is getting greedy. And you can’t say that Arsenal’s wage structure is so rigid as we’ve got the third or fourth highest wage bill in the Premier League, so somethings amiss.

That said, and your point of a player asking for a raise when he has had a good season, does that mean a player who hasn’t figured much should repay their wages to The Arsenal. If that’s your thinking then fuck me Robin van Persie and Tomas Sicky will be owing us money!
