Reports emanating from France today suggest that Werder Bremen midfielder, Amaury Bischoff will be joining Arsenal in the coming days.
Based on the report, Arsenal have already contacted Werder Bremen and the 21-year-old midfielder six months ago and it seems that negotiations have gone on well to bring Amaury to the Emirates Stadium.
DNA interviewed Amaury Bischoff, who gave some details about his possible transfer to Arsenal:
“There remain still some details to be finalized. And then we have to wait especially the return of Arsene Wenger who is in Vienna for the Euro 2008 finals. But I hope to sign in the next few days.”
Amaury Bischoff is of mixed parentage (his father is French while his mother is Portuguese). He has represented France Under 18s but opted to represent his mother’s country of origin for the Portugal Under 21s. And for the next level, Amaury has decided to stick with Portugal, hoping that he’ll be in national team in the very near future.
In the interview, Amaury told the newspaper that he feels that it is time to step up from playing in the reserves (with Werder Bremen) and move on to develop further. He also take the opportunity to talk about his experience with Werder Bremen, where he has learnt from the likes of famous Bundesliga players such as Diego, Frings, Micoud and Klasnic.
Bischoff can play across midfield, preferably as an offensive midfielder but is capable of playing on the right hand side. He has been compared to Lyon midfielder Jérémy Toulalan for his tough tackling, no nonsense approach to the game. Others feel he’s more of a box to box midfield player. One thing’s for sure, Amaury Bischoff is certainly one to look out for in the future.

Very interesting, if this story is true then Gilberto might think about leaving too.
June 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I just want to know if he’s related to Eric Bischoff.
June 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm
He also has just come back from a long term injury and has never played for the Werder 1st team! Just what we need.. an unproven young crock!
Not in the mood to hear about shit like this, no offence fella.
Especially when you mention 2 other Werder players who I would be happy for us to be linked with.
June 29, 2008 at 3:04 pm
4th…. who the hell is this guy hope hes can make a massive impression like sagna did
June 29, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Is this good player??? I never saw him in action can someone tell me this is the first time that i heard about this player.
June 29, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I’m going to be honest, I’ve never seen the lad play so I can only tell you what I’ve been told tbh.
June 29, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Why would Gilberto need to leave? This guy may not be ready to start in the first team right away and would probably benefit from understudying the older player, as well as the team benefiting from Gilberto’s experience.
June 29, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Anybody got any info at all on him?
June 29, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Wenger could tell you if he’s good enough. About him at Bremen he has Frings and Borowski in front of him and they’re very good GERMAN players. I’m sure he’s a real talent.
June 29, 2008 at 3:10 pm
He is 21, injury prone, never broke into the Werder 1st team. he is world class obviously!!!!
Gallows humour, sorry.
No offence but I hope this is bullshit.
June 29, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Bischoff is a elegant yet tenacious central midfielder, who covers the traditional holding role, protecting the back four. He can use both feet with equal accuracy, and is firm and aggressive in his challenges.
June 29, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Look, if Arsenal are buying him they have got to see something in him. I don’t know why all you are judging him by a long term injury and the fact that he couldn’t break into the first team in front of Miguel Veloso and Diego.
June 29, 2008 at 3:16 pm
The next Vieira?!
At least Overmars and Kanu had proven pedigree before their injuries, but it doesn’t matter what mood I’m in — Arsene is a master team builder and to my mind doesn’t seem to have gone off the rails since he built his previous squads. Indeed, he seems more on his game than ever. The more he reveals to media in other countries about the game, history, tactics, the business aspect, and as always, about players — some of which now trickles back to us via the multilingual Arsenal fan base on the internet but which the English media usually ignored because talking tactics bores sensationalist-minded tabloid (and most broadsheet) readers, not to mention the TV punditry — the more I can’t believe our luck that Wenger took the job in 1996. Moreover, look at his tactical choices over the last few years — now that the squad is big enough to vary up our tactics and to use different impact substitutes — and I am more impressed than ever with Wenger. One illustration – who the fuck thought much of Flamini in 2006, when Wenger said that his engine would make him a key player at the Emirates, where the pitch was bigger. Yet AW was right, more right than he realized and the club didn’t extend the kid’s contract!
June 29, 2008 at 3:16 pm
He is cheap, maybe even on a free?
June 29, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Well, Wenger must have felt he has certain qualities that Wenger wants in a defensive midfielder.
Think about it. Is Flamini well-known before he joins us?
NO!
So give him a try. Don’t moan and moan just because we aren’t buying any superstar players.
June 29, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Keep losing posts!
Joe; Nope its just me pre-judging him fella! And why not? Im ill with it and feel the need to spout shite today, ta.
This aint the sort of signing to induce confidence right about now. IMO.
June 29, 2008 at 3:21 pm
bet the scouting reports were interesting too.

June 29, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Sorry Spike mate, certain words are blocked out (foul language etc)
June 29, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Sorry but, Knock knock, who’s there, Cesc, Cesc who?
June 29, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Hopefully Arsene has pulled another Sagna out of his magic hat
June 29, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Well, they obviously had seen him befor he was injured. Do you really think Arsenal would buy a player that they haven’t seen before. Cheer up Spike.
June 29, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Arséne has obviously been following the lad for a while now and believes he’s a suitable replacement for Flamini.
June 29, 2008 at 3:26 pm
He has had 1 first team game under his belt, and that was a 15 minute spell in the UEFA Cup.
June 29, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Had anybody heard of Flam, Clichy, Cesc or Sagna before they came? Just because he isn’t a big name doesn’t mean he can’t be a big player for us
June 29, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Haha! Thanks Joe!
I am usually very optimistic when it comes to signings. Never bleat about so-called big names etc, but this one?
Just is not filling me with any sense of excitement at all, right now/
Sagna was a regular for Auxerre, Eduardo was doing it for Zagreb and his national team, Cesc came thru the Barca system and tore it up at a yute tournament and this guy….?
Ho-hum, wheres me Prozac?
June 29, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Then again, I wasn’t too chuffed when we signed Hleb and he was £10 million.
It aint got nuffin to do with the name, fee, etc and all to do with the fact that given what has gone on recently with the likes of Hleb and Ade, Wenger going for a fella who hasnt made it in the Bundesliga, which for me, is quite a weak league, is hardly gonna raise the spirits of the players (that are left anyway!) and fabs alike.
Oh and I was happy about Ramsey signing and I’d never really heard of him, so there.
June 29, 2008 at 3:35 pm
And it took 3 years for Flamini to establish himself in the first team.As to Sagna he was the player of the year in France in his position when we signed him. Clichy was 16.So this guy cant be compared with them. All you know is that he is Werder Bremen reserve with an injury record.Sorry if I’m not excited.Hopefully Wengers buying as cover and perhaps as an interesting prospect. Hopefully he’ll get someone like Velosa for first choice. If not consider what Fabregas will think of this
June 29, 2008 at 3:36 pm
I’ll update the post in a sec with more info on the lad.
Thanks for your help Spike
June 29, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Answer everyone’s question to who will be playing next to Cesc in the middle next season? I’m not too sure as he’ll be settling in, but we’ll see. Could well see in the Amsterdam tournament and Emirates cup.
June 29, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Pleasure Chris!
We have Denilson, Diaby and Song who are already at the club and therefore would seem closer to the 1st team. Clogging up the midfield with yet another ‘prospect’ just seems daft, UNLESS he is on a par with us signing Vieira from Milan’s reserves?
You see! I can be positive too.
June 29, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Can’t seem to find any videos of him, I’ll post a player profile up tomorrow.
June 29, 2008 at 3:58 pm
He’s a handsome chap isnt he!!! That hairdo is ace
June 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Ok, he’s unproven. So same as Fabregas too, did he ever break into Barca’s first team? yet he featured for us at the age of 17, FIRST TEAM.
There is no need to panic, there are still other players who can play in the same role. Gilberto, Diaby, Song to a certain extent and Denilson who is more suitable to give Fabregas a break than to play alongside him. Gilberto is very likely to be given the nod ahead of the rest when the league resumes as he knows how the team work and more importantly a good and experienced player which the team lack. Who knows? he does well and gets to keep his place for the rest of the season.
By any means, Amaury will have to take one season on the bench and play some Carling Cup games before he can get ahead of the above mentioned players.
P/S: whats with the advertising of your own website openly here? Give the owner some respect man… no offense intended.
June 29, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Duck, I can’t see any advertising of websites? Where can you see that mate?
I agree mate, he’s certainly a CC player, not a First Team player atm.
June 29, 2008 at 4:20 pm
in wenger we trust
June 29, 2008 at 4:25 pm
June 29, 2008 at 4:27 pm
ahh I see.
I link to TGF all the time, we’re close friends so theres no need to advertise the forum. I’ll delete the comment in a sec.
If anyone has a video on Bischoff please e-mail me, thanks.
June 29, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Duck’
Cesc came over when he was 15/16, played in the yutes and reserves before breaking into the 1st team.
This Biscoff fella is 21, thats quite an age difference isn’t it? You think he shoudl play in the reserves, then the CC squad then eventually play in the 1st team. So, when he’s about 27 we might see him then?
Please don’t compare him to Cesc, he is the exception, not the rule.
Denilson is more a defensive midfielder than an offensive one isnt he? Thought that was where he played for Brazil U18s anyways.
June 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Is it just me, or is he on the receiving end of a tough tackle? I mean, isn’t he supposed to…erm…do the tough tackling?
June 29, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Not if he had the ball.
June 29, 2008 at 4:50 pm
It looks like he’s jumped up for the ball to me..
June 29, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Bit of a crap question to be honest.
June 29, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Spike, well, there are late starters? Anyway, I do agree that Cesc is different. But there are players who shines in Arsenal but not else where (ADEBAYOR, PLEASE TAKE NOTE) and that is because where Arsene sees their strength and use it at a position/game plan to maximise it.
Thats the difference. So, it really doesn’t matter if he’s 21. However, he’s definitely not going to start should Gilberto stay
And for those who thinks that he’s over the hill, it was just two season ago that he scored 10 goals for us, an excellent captain and one who shows the young players how a professional should behave (even while Flamini was playing ahead of him throughout the whole season).
June 29, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Let’s face it, once again none of us knows a damn thing about any Wenger “mystery signing.”
For starters, though, I think we might all agree that AW can scout footballers and see things that we can’t — in fact, he has a record of noticing things that go right past other clubs.
So if the boss signs ANYONE, he’s got a reason and he’ll know a hell of lot more about the player than any of us. It’s true that not all of AW’s rocks turn into gems, but it’s happened often enough that I guarantee you United, Chelsea and Liverpool are right this minute calling in their scouts and personnel people to say: “Why don’t we have a report on Bischoff?”
Milan and Barca already are preparing to offer 20 million for him next year — just on the general principal that all Arsenal players are fantastic.
I cannot believe how supporters keep forgetting the tremendous percentage of Wenger’s signings who come good.
Don’t you find it amazing how many of our signings were NOT the end product of a big recruiting battle? Oh, we’ve got some like Theo and Ramsey, but so many of our key players weren’t in demand when Wenger came knocking.
It’s easy to look back and find pedigrees for Eduardo and Sagna NOW, but the simple truth is that Wenger was the only one who knew how really good they were — and fans, if they’re honest, were truly miffed about the signings at the time.
Haven’t we learned enough to let AW’s mysterious recruits get to the pitch before they’re dismissed as useless?
We really should know better after all these years.
June 29, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Spike is just being so super negative.
You obviously don’t have any idea of how Bischoff plays and what his style is. You’re talking nonsense with zero facts in your bag.
A lot of people here mentioned about Fabregas, Flamini being relatively unknown before getting famous by playing for Arsenal. If Bischoff joins, that’s the path he has to go through as well.
You’re saying that we have Denilson, Diaby and Song and so why do we have to buy a “prospect” in midfield again, right?
Well, do you think Denilson is really a defensive midfielder? That’s what you think of Denilson. He’s never a defensive midfielder. He’s more of a central midfielder with a little attacking flair and a little defensive side. He’s never gonna be a permanent “defensive midfielder” like you’ve said.
As for Diaby, do you think he can be our “Vieira”? Alex Song might be able to take the defensive midfield spot but there is a possibility that he might play more in central defense after showing better performances in that position for Arsenal during the last few games of last season.
C’mon, you are talking about the “abundance” of midfielders that we have and relate it to explain why you are so upset with the arrival of another central midfielder. Obviously you are being negative because he’s not “the one” for your liking.
Wake up dude. If Wenger wants him, obviously he has more information on Bischoff than you have in your bag. Do you think Wenger scouts a player based on only one season? There are way to many evidence that he scouts player for more than a season.
If you’re so upset with this signing, take your moaning elsewhere. You’re obviously trying to be a troublemaker here. A lot of us are eager to know more about Amaury Bischoff but you’re trying your best to moan, moan and moan. What’s your problem?
Anyway, according to some fans who’ve watched him (they left comments on Young Guns), he’s a pretty good prospect who can play in both creative and defensive midfield positions. He is very versatile and talented and that’s the reason why he was brought to Werder Bremen to be developed. However, he was plagued with an injury (not injuries mind that) that kept him out of last season. Note that you can’t say a player is injury prone just because he had one lengthy injury.
Give him a chance if he’s coming. After all, I rather have a down-to-earth player who wants to play for the club, than having a flashy, famous player who prefers to play for money at a rich club.
June 29, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Is this pretty much 100% going through
June 29, 2008 at 5:26 pm
It seems pretty likely mate yep.
June 29, 2008 at 5:28 pm
i dont mind if he is an unknown, as long as we are making signings, looks like we are building for next season
June 29, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Definitely, It’s great to see Wenger extending the squad, something we didn’t have last season.
June 29, 2008 at 5:31 pm
After tonights Euro final, I think tranfer market going to go crazy, If Ade hadnt started all this shit, I would be pretty confident having lost Flamini and Hleb, that we could replace them
June 29, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Nasri and this guy in, Flamini and Hleb out. Still does not sort out the problem that we were light a few players at the end of last season, so I think we may sign another midfielder, and a right back and have no idea what is going to happen to Ade
June 29, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Jilllu, we also have Ramsey, Vela and a fit Eduardo, RVP and Rosicky
June 29, 2008 at 5:58 pm
It would be amazing if there will be a double announcement. But it isnt too problem, if Nasri would come to us on Tuesday or Wednesday. Bischoff on Thursday.
June 29, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Kev;
Oh dear, are you upset coz it was you who ‘discovered’ this news?
Aw, my heart bleeds.
Yep, how dare I not wonder in amazement at this fantastic news? I am such a trouble maker arent I?
Jeeeeeeezzz, where were you when the Nazi’s were doing their thing? How dare we debate or have divergent views.
Wake up dude!!! Coz you are dreaming if you think anyone is gonna be impressed with this fella!
Oh Denilsojn is a midfielder who is a bit offensive and a bit defensive???
Oh sorry, with knowledge like that I bet Wenger is looking over his shoulder!
Hahahahahahahahaha! Quality!
June 29, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Spike,
You are a troublemaker.
Obviously Denilson is not a defensive midfielder. He can pester players to snatch balls and get back possession. And he has vision or what people say eye for a pass. But he’s not good enough to be known as defensive midfielder.
Jeez. When did I say I’m impressed with this fella? That’s why you’re blind dude. Read properly before trying to make a proper reply.
End of.
I’m not gonna waste any of my time replying you because you’re obviously not fit to lick my boots.
June 29, 2008 at 6:25 pm
I think signing this guy means that Gilberto will stay becasue he is now in pole position to keep retain his spot in the 1st Team. Hope Amaury ends up being good for us!
June 29, 2008 at 6:49 pm
great post and good point Gooner Jillu but i think Wenger is gonna see some of the Young Guns out this year as cover where they were just not ready last year adding this fella,Nasri, Ramsey and bringing in Vela and so i have heard Botelho maybe inline for the red and white shirt this year
i am looking forward to seeing this next generation come through and see if they can be the beef we need . however, in saying that hopefully a few more signings are in the stars for us wether they are big names or are dudu, sagna type signings just no need really to spread us thin again
June 29, 2008 at 8:44 pm
[...] Posts Arsenal Set To Sign Flamini ReplacementMarseille Contingent Say ‘Au Revoir’ To Samir Nasri As Move Set To Conclude On TuesdayGunners [...]
June 29, 2008 at 9:24 pm
He’s not coming to replace Flamini, he’s more playing at Rosicky’s place.
But he will start with second team, I’ve seen him playing very young (I’m from Strasbourg), he was good but not a star!
He will come free from Werder then they don’t want to give him a new contract.
June 30, 2008 at 3:28 am
whoa.. so much flaming going on here. Let’s cut everybody some slack and get back to the Werder Bremen midfielder, Amaury Bischoff.
If he can do what a defensive midfielder do and also add some creativity then that’ll be great for us! Because Fabregas will definitely be tightly marked by opposition DMs. If that combination is true, then he ‘could’ someday be like Vieira. But first, Arsenal need to sign him. Then he’s got to impress and finally, he has to make that DM berth for himself. Still a long way to go.
June 30, 2008 at 4:17 am
Oh, yeah.. don’t forget we’ll also have our own fringe players when a new batch of young gunners due to be promoted for this season.
June 30, 2008 at 5:22 am
Wegner and the board on the cheap again and again.
June 30, 2008 at 12:00 pm
i am tried of hearing about this cheap player arsenal go out, let look for two world class players. with tihs kind of way arsenal will go with out in this coming season
June 30, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Would be a normal Arsene signing…………so unknown he is not even on Youtube………he also injury prone!
Perfect for us as if we need another midfielder who is injury prone.
June 30, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I love when Arsenal signs new wonderkids.
June 30, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Im gonna keep it short & sweet as i see alot of ppl have had alot to say about this guy.
But 21 & no 1st team experience, injury prone?? Im sure we have better comming through the ranks.. playing him infront of denilson would be a complete PISSTAKE.. If we bought in someone with more experience then atleast then it wont be as much as a knockdown on the other CM’S confidence.
June 30, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Please boss don’t sign a player who’s already injury prone. Remember Rosicky and RVP I wonder how often they’ll play next season not too often I’ll bet. When players start getting injury prone (through no fault of their own) 9 times out of 10 it will always be like that take Lundburg he was a fine example. For gawd’s sake sign players who are experienced and not too injury prone. If money’s the problem then bring in Stan and let’s keep up with the rest of the big spenders otherwise we are going to get left behind, or putting it another way we’ll become stronger in the league holding all the others up including Spurs ugh!
July 1, 2008 at 12:22 am
This geezer’s an unknown, but so has 99 % of Wenger’s signings been!! The guy’s a legend, and if his scouts are saying yes, (the same scouts that brought us a yes for Flamini, and a yes for denilson) then I would agree, but we have Denilson, who IS proven at this level, and he IS good enough! We don’t need a central midfielder, we need to sign a utility player, someone who can play anywhere in the midfield for extra cover, we may need a goalie, Robinson’s now available, and he’s good enough. I hear moans, yes, I know he’s from Shite Hart Lane, but there’s no doubting his ability, and he’s English!!! Yes, TWO BRITISH SIGNINGS in ONE SUMMER!! So there’s now a smile on Michel “I’m a complete UEFA Dictator” Platini’s face. Sorry Manuel, you’re a decent goalie, but your not solid enough at the moment, Robbo could be, and has only looked poor at times this season because he’s had such a shit team in front of him! Our defence is fine, fuck the doubters, William will once again prove his worth, Kolo has never been doubted, and if Bacari and Clichy can keep going the way the where – forward – then I see no problem next season.
ARSENE KNOWS BEST!!!!
