David Seaman has expressed his worry over continued speculation surrounding the future of Arsenal players, namely Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Arsenal goalkeeping legend believes there will not be a shortage of followers if the Togolese striker departs:
“There have been a couple of surprises in the people that have left and when you are looking at the squad, which is not the biggest in the world, it’s worrying.” He told the Mirror.
“Then, when you see the names bandied around that might leave it makes you worry more. Adebayor would be a massive loss. No-one knows who he is watching and then he just pulls one out of the hat and everyone says: ‘Where did he come from?’.”
Personally I am not worried about Adebayor as I believe he can be replaced. He scored 30 goals, works ever so hard but his attitude is in serious question. Roque Santa Cruz and Daniel Guiza have both been mentioned as possible replacements. So far its just mere speculation but I would rather Arsenal go all out for Santa Cruz as he has deceptive pace, a composed finisher, good in the air and most important of all is a proven premiership striker.
With the quality of Arsenal’s service into the front men there is no doubt he would net more than the 19 Premier League goals than he did for Blackburn last season.

I agree
June 28, 2008 at 2:05 pm
do you see what is inter buying.my god,if drogba hoes thee to.i can you imagibe what team are they building.
June 28, 2008 at 2:06 pm
He CAN be replaced though. Its a fact that Ade has had just one good season at the club and I personally believe we could bring a replacement in who would score twice as many goals as Ade did this season.
June 28, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I really don’t like him anymore. I hope we sell him for £30m and he falls flat on his ugly face.
June 28, 2008 at 2:13 pm
guyz what do u lot think of mario gomez ?????
June 28, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I haven’t seen much of him, but he was crap at Euro’s so i don’t really rate him, anyone got a link for a vid?
June 28, 2008 at 2:14 pm
DOLLA HES SH*T
June 28, 2008 at 2:15 pm
guyz what about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, everyone seems to frogot him. he rejected a new contract at Ajax
http://www.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/06/28/Eredivisie-Ajax-on-Huntelaar/?facets/sport-space/football/north-america-locale/
June 28, 2008 at 2:17 pm
He hasn’t impressed in the Euros tbh, but he is a good player from what i’ve seen of him in the Bundesliga.
Huntelaar would be a fantastic signing, could definitely replace Ade if he goes.
June 28, 2008 at 2:21 pm
they should buy me. I would play my arse off cos i love the club.
June 28, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I would want Mario Gomez/David Villa/Eto’o/Huntelaar if Ade goes….
I’ve got this wicked chant that we can sing for Carlos Vela::
(In the tune of Rihanna – Umbrella)
We’ve Got Carlos Vela Vela Vela Vela Vela Eh ehhh ehhh
June 28, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Screw him. Sell SELL SELLLLLL
June 28, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Thats sing along is a bit gay dont you think GunnerRashidinho – unbrella ? no thanks
June 28, 2008 at 2:28 pm
fvcking adebayor was my favourite player last season but all this transfere talk just had enough about if he wants to fvck right off. if he wanted to stop the rumours clichy did it in a day so adebayor. GO if u think the grass is greener ova there then GO
June 28, 2008 at 2:29 pm
one thing we have to know here we dont need player Asking for more money every summer the way I see it Ade is one of them . And Hleb as well . Ade get his pay rise only last summer which he was not even that good at the end of that season so he completely forgotten who he was then . If he had scored those missed chances at Manu last season we may have been champions by now at least runner up
we dont need him anymore thats it !
June 28, 2008 at 2:30 pm
hey everyone new to the site, read it for a while though
have to say i definitely like the look of dani guiza, impressive in la liga this year and liked him in the euros coming off the bench. Looked good with the chances he had. Good thing is there are definitely strikers out there with that little bit of brilliance that adebayor has to replace him, compared to last season. not all doom and gloom
June 28, 2008 at 2:32 pm
as long as van persie and tomas are fit for more than 10 games this season that is
June 28, 2008 at 2:32 pm
How come Adibayor can be your best player RG we must be sleep the all season long
Remember all those misses
June 28, 2008 at 2:35 pm
guys totally of subject but have any of you heard akon – clap again… its amazing u shud hear it.. also gooner chris great blog, keep it up.
June 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm
lol Dolla, slightly off topic but yeah I’ve heard it, good tune.
Thanks for the support mate.
June 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I like Santa Cruz and what I have seen in the Prem – my only concern is that he has not been prolific in the past partly due to injuries. It’s a shame about Ade as I really think that he had a lot more potential to develop at Arsenal and become a superstar.
June 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm
With Van Persie, Walcott, Eduardo, Bendtner, and Vela at the club if Adebayor is sold i’m pretty sure Wenger won’t buy a replacement, and to be honest it wouldn’t really both me. All we’d need then is for Hleb to follow him for £15m, finally complete the deal for Nasri and get in an other goal scoring wide man and i think we’d be ok for the new season, as i beleive our down fall last sason was the lack of goals from midfield, fabregas excluded of coarse.
June 28, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Course Ade can be replaced.
Not sure about Santa Cruz tho??? McCarthy had a great 1st season then what> Nothing.
Eto’o, Huntelaar, Villa (obviously!)
Just as long as it isnt Crouch!
June 28, 2008 at 2:38 pm
we should sign a player with the same attributes as Adebayor not a completely different type of striker because that would make no sense at all. It’s got to be someone tall, good in the air, can hold up the ball, scores goals and creates goals.
Now the question is guys who is that?………….
June 28, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Roque Santa Cruz has had one good season and up until now he’s been more injury prone than Rosicky and quiet frankly he’s not very good. If he is our Ade replacement then let’s look forward to another season like Thierrys last. i.e crap.
June 28, 2008 at 2:39 pm
no it wont.
June 28, 2008 at 2:40 pm
We will be getting that Guiza guy.
June 28, 2008 at 2:41 pm
adebayor is greedy pigs….get rid of him!!…maybe it is time for bendtner to show his potential…
June 28, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Agree with jamjam on necessary attributes – we need someone who can look after themselves and make their own opportunities as well as joining in with team play.
June 28, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Deise; Gay aint the word mate!
John;
Seriously fella. That is NOT an option.
NOT to replace Ade IF he goes???
That is not worth even thinking about.
RvP; A bonus if he plays half a season, cannot build a team round him.
Theo; Will play on the wing next season.
Eduardo; No idea if he will bhe back to his best, ever.
Vela; NOT proven in the prem, who knows if he can cut it?
Bendtber; Loads of talent and potential, again not proven over a whole season, would be a massive gamble although in the long run i feel he will be a top player.
We desperatley need a quality proven striker IF Ade goes.
June 28, 2008 at 2:43 pm
We have Bendtner he is almost like Ade so we need a player like Villa who can like very well with the other strikers
June 28, 2008 at 2:43 pm
guys look what barca got to say bout adebayor
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1354765.ece
June 28, 2008 at 2:43 pm
What about the lad from Sunderland ?
June 28, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Hope it aint that Guiza geezer either Danish!
We could do with a top striker with a great 1st touch who is clinical in front of goal.
So someone with none of Ade’s attributes then!
June 28, 2008 at 2:47 pm
we only have to cash on Ade and bring in Villa/Benzema/Santa cruz (my favourite
June 28, 2008 at 2:47 pm
We have in front: Walcott, vela, bendtner, Eduardo e Van Persie. For me is enough…we are strong without any new player
June 28, 2008 at 2:49 pm
love to get all that money for him so long as we buy someone to replace him. santa cruz defo be good, cost us bout 15 mill so that would be 10 mill to play with from the transfer of adebayor plus we really do need to get a solid proven centre midfielder as diaby/denillson not quite ready and gilberto is passed it if compare our midfield to chels man u and liverpool.
If we don’t get santa cruz then we need somone who leads the line and can play on there own as targetman.
June 28, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Santa is a better player than Ade and more experienced . He is also south American so will fit well in our team
June 28, 2008 at 2:52 pm
whether you lot like it or not adebayor will only get better. if he goes when he is 27 we will be looking at him like we do at other top players wishing he was at arsenal. i know hes got a massive ego but look at the way he has developed over the last seasons. He answered when henry left and whether you like it or not hes a major part of the reason we got so close. dont hate him because he wants more money he is a top player and 30,000 a week is something huddlesom would get, now that isnt fair is it? I personally hope he stays and look forward to chanting his name next season.
June 28, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Jam Jam we dont need someone with the same attributes as Adebayor to be brought in if he leaves as we already have a player who has very similar qualities in Bendtner. An as far as aerial threat goes Bendtner seems to be more of a threat than Ade. Im sure Wenger will buy a descent player to replace him whether the replacement is a high profile signing or an unknown like Eduardo.
June 28, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I agree that Santa Cruz would be the best option if Ade goes – which he won’t.
June 28, 2008 at 2:55 pm
no matter what we are in good hand AW !
June 28, 2008 at 2:55 pm
for me give bendtner the chances…
June 28, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Ade said in public that he is moveing for money haha so imagin what AW is thinkig at this moument. By the way He has a press conference in Vienna this evening looking forward what he will say about this mess
June 28, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Come on! the whole reason why Theo had been given number 14 is because he’ll be Ade’s replacement if he goes!
That’s the move to show that we’re not looking for another number 14!!!
June 28, 2008 at 3:04 pm
JAFO; from what’s been said, it looks like it doesn’t it? We need a finisher, Ade out.. Villa in? Villa and Fabregas, F*ck Gerrard and Torres
June 28, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Greedy one season son of a ex Gunner Ade,was nothing until Wenger worked his magic on him and Ade still aint there yet .Just like Greedy mark 1 Sulkanelka who recently informed the world he should of never left The Aresnal, Ade you aint that good yet.Yes pay the greedy son of a gun more so next season after all the boys set him up goals on a plate just like Oliver he will ask for more.I would rather see Raphel Meade back in the red of Arsenal
June 28, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Guys, in all fairness Ade has been pretty good this season, scored lots of goals, lead the front line really well, superb hitman up the field, I can not see why so many people give him stick, so he missed a few chances last season, ( what player doesn’t ), but he also scored 30 odd goals, no other player in an arsenal shirt was even near that figure.
I hope he stays, he will only get bigger, stronger, better!!
Even the premierships best defenders hate playing against him, Rio Ferdinand says he is the hardest attacker to play against.
I think everyone needs to lay off Ade, he has had a great season, and so what if he wants more money? He obviously deserves it, Liverpool pay Torres huge money, for a similiar amount of goals?
In my opinion, keep Ade, pay him more, and get off his back!!
June 28, 2008 at 3:22 pm
I’m only giving him stick cuz of what he’s come out saying, being a complete wanker.
June 28, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Spike, Adebayor wasn’t a proven premiership goalscorer until last season!! Anyway, any player who players up front for Arsenal are going to score their fare share of goals, and as i said before it was the midfield who badly let the side down on the scoring front, Hleb scored what 4 goals, Eboue 0, Rosicky about 6, flamini 3, not good enough to win the league in my opinion, especially when Ronaldo got 40+. If we get £25m for Ade and another £12-15m for Hleb that’ll be more than enough to buy some goal scoring midfeilders! Arshavin or Silva would be the obvious choices but unknowns are far more likely with Wenger.
June 28, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Every other season it’s seems we have to give a little more to grredy players,Ade has been here two minutes if he scores anther 30 next season and we win something top up his pay but hell should keep paying individuals who are part of a TEAM Wenger has created.Created because we dont have the means like the Chav’s or Amerimanc’s to buy top players so yes Ade we buy playerS like you. Then when we dont just quite make it you jump ship for you own interest As for all this crap about players wanting to play with other top stars let them buy a bloody Playstation and play with whoever they like.Wenger sell greedy or keep him to his contract for one year then sell,
June 28, 2008 at 3:35 pm
We got lucky with Ade. Even Wenger said he never expected him to do so well. We would be relying on another ‘fluke’ if we didnt sign a proven striker, like we were unlucky in Wenger relying on Rosicky and RvP to stay fit.
It would be a huge gamble, one that I hope Wenger doesn’t make.
Now, signing Silva as well as a striker? That is a good idea!
June 28, 2008 at 3:38 pm
It’s funny, I listen to all this garbage about how Arsenal will fall if Hleb and Adebayor go…NO freakin way that happends. First off, Flamini can easily be replaced, and already has with Nasri and Ramsey…If Hleb goes, I’d use that money and go get David Silva. Do you all understand how amazing this player is, and much better than Hleb ever will be or is now. Then if Adebayor goes, I’d go all out for Santa Cruz or Villa. Could it hurt if we had Cesc, Silva and Villa up front for our squad? This would be an amazing team. I just dont want Wenger to go cheap, if he gets big money for Hleb and Ade, turn it around and bring in players like SIlva and VIlla who wont take long if at all to get comfortable.
June 28, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Ade only had 2/3 of the season to brag about, and when crunch time came he (and several others) failed to turn up and collectively we lost the trophies… and how on earth could he demands the alleged 120K pw wage? And the recent reported slurs he put forward in the media had been disgraceful and embarrassing [to the club]
What did he mean when he allegedly said to the effect that big clubs are interest… ‘big clubs’? arsenal is a big club… Is Milan in the new CL? I think not; did Barca win the CL often? No.
So if we really could get 20m+ for this guy, go for it, iun my opinion. The thing people ought to know [by now] is that our approach (you can call it game plan/ team play/ or simply midfields) makes star strikers if they do time for several years — and i think there are many of these we could create if Ade goes.
June 28, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Seaman did not say “Ade Exit Will Ruin Arsenal”, he said “Adebayor would be a massive loss.” Please don’t use quotation marks for non-quotes. It’s misleading and inaccurate.
June 28, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Never did rate Ade that much and is not worth much more than 7 mil think of all the goal chances he missed if he had scored half of them he would have had 50 goals easy, I say sell him and get either Villa or Hunteslar both so much better than Ade could ever be, but what are we all getting worried about a Large centre half and winger are what we really want come, on Wenger either sign somebody or move over dont keep promising and doing nothing ite now we want trophes not in ten years time. tony
June 28, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Spike, yes we got lucky with Adebayor but Wenger has produced enough top strikers for it not to be a fluke, namely Weah, Anelka, Henry. I believe AW has seen something in the players we have to make him believe Ade can go, or thinks his form last year was a flash in the pan.
How many times has AW got to internally replace he’s star players to prove he knows what he’s doing?
Who here would have laught at me 12 months ago if i told you that we’d all be panicking that Adebayor and Flamini had left?
i await your answers
June 28, 2008 at 4:13 pm
The squad wasnt big enough last season. Flamini has gone and IF Ade goes that squad will be weaker still, even with nasri and 17 year old Ramsey.
We need additions and if Ade goes, we definitely need a striker. I am sure there will be a few further new signings coming in though.
That is the bottom line for me. On another topic,k If I have to watch Eboue on the right side of midfield, or Diaby on the left, i think i will just die! Ooh I really will you know!
June 28, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Adebayor..Adebayorrrrrrr..he’s becoming a pain lets show him the door..
June 28, 2008 at 4:28 pm
i’m not conviced the whole squad wasn’t big enough last year, you can’t keep 6 players for every position it just doesn’t work like that. my analysis would be we stopped scoring goals at a crucial time, 0-0 at wigan, and 1-1 with blackburn sping to mind, adequate cover for Hleb and Rosicky is what i believe cost us, as Diaby and Eboue just aren’t. So as i said a couple goal scoring midfielders is our most pressing need!
June 28, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Erm, so the squad wasnt big enough then?
Make your mind up john!!!
Not having cover on the wings, as well as upfront as Wenger naively thought he could rely on RVP and Rosicky, seems to tell me the squad was not big enough.
Loving your optimistic spin though fella.
June 28, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Guys, one season doesn’t make a legend. He talks about $$ but forgot who gave him chance, and made him the player he is now. We can more than adequately replace him, especially if le boss gets the right replacement. I like Cruz, as do some of you. Can Wenger get the russian, Ashvin (spelling?)
Let’s look at it positvely. The manure club -(fergie’s red nose is probably turning purple) – is having a harder problem trying to hold on to wantaway ronaldo. Dont know to pity them or clap sometimes.
June 28, 2008 at 6:09 pm
santa cruz is in the same situation as adebayor. hes only proven it for 1 season just like adebayor so youre being hypocrites really! santa cruz couldnt get a game for bayern munich so what makes you think he can get a game for the arsenal. if were going to bye santa cruz (which i doubt because wenger said ades going nowhere) then id rather have bendtner playing personally because he is a perfect suitor to adebayor and he score with his head.
June 28, 2008 at 10:44 pm
spike, i meant certain positions, up front wasn’t really a problem, even with van persie and eduardo out as bendtner did score some important goals as did walcott. Rosicky however didn’t have any cover, and as a result lead to diaby (our central midfield cover) playing on the left. the lack of cover on the wings forced AW to play our striking (eduardo, walcott), defensive(eboue) and central midfield(diaby, denilson) cover playing out of position creating the appearance that the squads general depth was poor, which wasn’t the case, just that good players looked poor playing out of position in an area where there was any cover! I just don’t believe that we need a new striker, 2 midfielders, 2 wingers, and 2 defenders like some.
June 29, 2008 at 10:26 am
I always believe in wenger because if he sells someone, he’ll certainly have a better replacement or an alternative gameplan in his mind. Why do we need star players?? No one complained when we won the title wit a young PV n TH.. Everyone complain about arsenal selling stars. Were any of them young?? Except anelka.. But see who came in for him.. N wat dat guy is to our club.. That’s wenger.. I support him in watever he does.. He always does things for the safety of the club.. I dont think ade will go until wenger gets a replacement for him.. But i do like to suggest three serious players more than able to replace him.. 1. Jo of Brazil , 2. Pavlyuchenko of Russia. Both playin in russian league i suppose n 3. Balotelli(damn good) of Italy n Inter milan.Wat do u ppl say?
June 30, 2008 at 2:11 pm
sell him for 20+ mil. it’s worthy to sell a useless player for this large amount of money. sign Villa/Huntelaar or any striker with great great finishing and a winger who can play either on the right or the left flanks.
and I think Theo will be playing as a striker next season. that’s the reason why he’s Arsenal’s new no. 14.
hoping to see Merida and Barazite playing in the BPL next season.
