Weah ‘Urges’ Milan To Sign Arsenal Forward

June 25, 2008

AC Milan legend George Weah has urged his former club to do everything possible to sign Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal.

The Serie A side and Spanish giants Barcelona have targeted the Togo striker, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season of the Gunners.

Weah, a former European and world player of the year, was at Milan for five years and feels Adebayor would fit the bill at the San Siro.

“He’s a good player and if Milan contract him I think it’s a good thing,” said Weah.

“It’s a good thing for Milan because they need good players.

“He has good skills, he’s strong and he’s a good scorer. If Milan have the possibility to take him to AC Milan that’s a good deal for Milan.”

Weah has been in Vienna for Euro 2008 as an ambassador for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, with officials insisting plans are on track for the tournament.

The 41-year-old feels African teams can make an impression in two years’ time.

“It’s not impossible for an African team to take the World Cup,” he said.

“It might be difficult but it’s a possibility because we saw at the last two World Cups African team were in a quarter-final and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final is just three (steps).”

The total cost of Adebayor looks likely to amount to a transfer record for the world champions as they look to rebuild in the hope of a Scudetto challenge next term. Adebayor himself though, has already stated twice that his future is at the Emirates Stadium.

I really enjoy watching the African players and especially the international teams I don’t think they can win the World cup yet. Not until there are more resources for the youth and better programs for building more talent across the African nations. Thus giving more individuals. “diamonds in the rough, a chance to be found.”

Agreed mate. You never know though. Just look at the Euros, the underdogs have managed to get through to the Semi’s which is a sign that the so-called ’smaller sides’ are on the up.

I don’t think AC actually want our players but trying to get their own back after we had that legendary win in the champions league, probably some sort of conspiracy like..lol i hope Ade dusnt go he has been pretty quite the past weeks!!

  4. Slick Says:

interesting Weah quotes, given his positive history with Wenger, and Wenger’s with African players, but I’d read it as less about AC Milan vs. Arsenal and more about talking up an African player whose had a good season.

  5. Gooner Chris Says:

Maybe mate. But Weah has close contacts with Milan and obviously would love Ade to join the club which he loves so very much.

  6. Bye Ade Says:

    Sell Ade, he’s shit

  7. Ricky Says:

32m & he’ll be forgotten by the end of next season.

  8. Gunner Jillu Says:

sell the ungreatful bastard and let him make the mistake. All this speculation surrounding our players shows we need to sign English players, they would show greater loyalt and English players rarely go abroad to play their football

  9. Gunner Jillu Says:

I am starting to have no faith in our players, they all jump ship when they get a bit of fame, hope Flamini and Ade the hoare break their legs in their first game

  10. Ricky Says:

True, the thing is i would understand if he had a few good years under his belt but has only had 1 single good yr & thinks he’s world class!!

One good season does’nt make you world class so he better think twice before he goes 2 a so called big club whos not even playing in the champs legaue & have only luckily qualified for the CL in the last few yrs.

I believe the best thing for us to do is to weed out the players who don’t want to be here. There are footballers all over the world who would give their last breath to step on the pitch as part of the Arsenal Club!! we are gonna be strong without the type of people who don’t want to be here.
