Arsenal star Robin van Persie is relieved to be back in the fold for Holland’s upcoming European Championship campaign and hopes his injury problems don’t hamper his performance during the tournament.
The 24-year-old has been training on his own since yesterday afternoon and was a major doubt for the “Oranje’s” opening Euro 08 match against current world champions Italy.
van Persie, talking to the Euro 2008 official website said:
“The last few weeks have been tough, but everything was under control. Every possible match situation was tested and I came through them all.
But in group training it’s different as you have to do what the coach says. But it’s good to be back. I knew what to expect, maybe I’m a bit more tired, but that’s normal.”
The Dutchman also revealed about the high risk he is taking by starting the vital game against Italy:
“He (Marco van Basten) told me we would not need another friendly as we would have a practice match in training,” Van Persie said.
“I don’t know if it is wise to start against Italy or not. I have done it with Arsenal after just one training session and one time it went OK, the other time it did not.
I think it will be hard to play the 90 minutes. I say ‘I’m available’ then it’s up to the coach. I would pick myself for this match nine times out of ten. I feel good. But then I would always pick myself nine times out of ten.”
Robin’s last Arsenal game was the 6-2 win over already-relegated Derby County in which the former Feyenoord man scored.
There is no doubting Robin’s ability, but fitness worries will almost always cast a shadow of doubt over his football. Lets wish the front man a great tournament and if all goes well, Arsenal will have a fit Robin van Persie for next season.

its in the nature of the premier league.and we are a team that has technicaly and speed players, not massive players and that its a diavantage but lets hope they will not be injured for long time and that wenger will bring plers capacble to replace them because that is actualy meaning a team mnot only the firs 11 but the holl lot.

Sadly, he’s unlikely to play in their opener against Italy.
